Chris Bradley, who along with his family had been relocated to Florida by Maverick, has returned to a rainy New York City to meet with his friend, Donna Funaro. Their reunion is interrupted by the Friends of Humanity who attack Chris, but Maverick and Elena Ivanova intervene. The quartet try to fly away in a hovercar, but are shot down by one of the FoH thugs. Two blocks away, Wolverine hears the commotion and comes to join the fray. Elena telepathically causes the Friends, as well as Donna, to witness an illusion of Chris' death in an explosion, covering the group's escape. The next night, in their hotel room, Maveick and Elena become intimate.
